My name is Shelby Bennett. I made horticulture my major in college and pursued several opportunities to explore horticulture through internships. Through my internships with Calloway’s Nurseries, Magnolia Gardens Nursery, and J.Barry Nursery I continued to cultivate my interest in the nursery business.
When I reached my senior year of college I began applying for jobs in this industry. My horticulture professor suggested that I attend a career fair that the college was hosting that spring. It was at this career fair that I was introduced to Miranda, a Junior Buyer here at Newton’s Nurseries. I was invited for an interview, where I met one of the owners Philippe Joubert and the Store Manager Joe Williams. They went out of their way to work with me on scheduling the interview so that I would not have to miss any classes for college. They invited me to work with them during my spring break so that I could get a feel for their business, and they could see how I worked. They even invited me to meetings and training for their company before my graduation.
While I have only been with Newton for a short time, they have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome. Everyone here has been very helpful, the customers are amazing, and I love working for Newton Nurseries. I continue to look forward to coming to work due to the kindness of my coworkers and the awesome customers.

It’s large, ruffled, pink flowers show brightly against the deep green leaves. Best used as a small accent shrub or blooming hedge in areas sheltered from the hot afternoon sun.
